Healthy Schools National Accreditation

Healthy Schools National Accreditation program has been conducted since 2008 with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Education (MOE). The Accreditation program aims to create health promoting environments within Jordanian schools that reflect positively on student’s physical and social growing, as well as on their academic performance. The program is carried through national health standards that participating schools are trained and supervised to implement successfully.

The Healthy Schools program is implemented in Jordanian schools in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. Standards were developed by a specialized committee from UNICEF, World Health Organization, Communication Partnership for family Health, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. These Standards cover the following areas:

- Management and leadership.

- Safe school environment.

- Healthy school environment.

- Clean school environment.

- Health education.

- Staff and community participation.

- Health services.

- Social and psychological support.

- Nutrition.

- Physical activity.

- Swimming pools.

RHAS was accredited by Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to evaluate schools and provide them with accreditation. RHAS has developed an evaluation system that is to aid in ranking and recognizing the school as a Healthy School. The evaluation system includes guidelines for implementation, evaluation criteria per standard chapter, scores for accreditation, timing and scheduling of the accreditation process, and accreditation reviewing and monitoring. By the end of the academic year, schools will be accredited as follows:

- Bronze level of accreditation: For schools that have achieved 60% in every chapter of the accreditation standards during the first year, and upon that it will be granted a one year accreditation certificate and accreditation Logo.

- Silver level of accreditation: For schools that have achieved 75% in every chapter of the accreditation standards during the second year, and upon that it will be granted a one year accreditation certificate and accreditation Logo.

- Gold level of accreditation: For schools that have achieved 90% in every chapter of the accreditation standards during the third year, and upon that it will be granted a three year accreditation certificate and accreditation Logo.
